Description

The question was "What Art Style Are You?" and the design method to use was actual prints. I wasn't sure how to respond to the question at first, and in the end I went with a sort of abstract response; noting I generally prefer older and classical design styles to the modern ones (in terms of architecture, I can barely stand Modernism or Post-Modernism...but enough talk of that; I suffered through enough of that crap on that wretched Architecture course I briefly took). So I drew a basic pattern inspired by something I'd seen on a Greek fresco or something and mixed it with a rotational concept I'd almost used for the July entry.

I noted this made the page resemble a game board, which worked, as I spent a good deal of time in High School working on board game designs; first an incredibly complex Monopoly variant called "Mystopoly" (it was edited in Microsoft Paint, but you couldn't tell, there was a simplified manual that broke the whole game down into bullet points on six pages, all the pieces were crafted from modelling clay, each Chance/Community Chest card had a story on it, and I even worked in the old "Stock Exchange" expansion page from the 30s...plus the whole thing fit into a neatly designed box designed to let you transport the whole thing easily), which I eventually handed in as my end of year project, and second a completely insane parody board game called "Botulism: The Game for Lunatics"*. Both of these became quite popular at the last two schools I attended before starting Tertiary studies; I'd often bring them in and spent lunch playing them with friends. I should really upload them at some point.

*The only object of this game was to be the last person left standing, and that wasn't hard when just about every square killed you. The rest would make you do something silly. To play, you rolled two dice, and whichever die was further to the left was how far forwards you went, and then the right die was how far you went back. A double thus meant you repeated the square you were on. This led to an incident one game when a friend landed on the "Time For A Coffee Break!" square three times in a row, thus dictating he go and find a snack each time. The first time he went and grabbed a drinkbottle full of chocolate milk. The second time, he went to the school kitchens, cursing the whole way, and returned with a single Weet-Bix, which he ate DRY in front of us all. The third time he slammed his bottle on the table in anger...not realising the lid was open, so we all got sprayed with chocolate milk. I covered the board with plastic wrap after that.
