Palace Concept by AMCAlmaron Palace Concept by AMCAlmaron
It's been a while since I made anything in Lego Digital Designer...well, I got a bit carried away building palaces while talking with :iconddraigtanto: about locations. This thing's sort of a mixture between the Palaces of Westminster and Versailles...with a bit of the Forbidden City thrown in there.

I did always have a love bordering on obsession with Versailles. I was originally tempted to have said palace be Ddraig's offical residence, and it was in some of my previous incarnations of my fic, as in, the 'before Avalar' stuff.
That, and I always B-line towards building said palace when on Civ 4, opportunity forthcoming.

But I digress. That is pretty much better than any design I had in mind. If it was scaled up, I imagine that building complex would be bloody vast! And that's always a good thing. :)

Go on, have a go in Lego Digital Designer! It takes a while to get your head around it, but once you do, you'll be building crap as crazy as this! You could copy my "1-2-1-2-1" pattern (where the walls are five bricks high) which you can see here to help get the general shape sorted...as you saw in the draft document, I just do lots of poles first, and then add walls later. Don't forget to look up how to turn "Extended" mode on, though...it might be a default setting now, but when I downloaded LDD it was an Easter Egg you had to activate it by adding a line to one of the text files.

Back to the building though...well, if you assume each "2" part can hold a double door, then you could be generous and assume that each of the towers are 6m x 6m? If those huge two buildings at the back are for the Day and Night Guards, then the top rooms could be lounges of sorts...

It's also just occurred to me that I put a big balcony at the front of the building overlooking the massive entry courtyard...well, I guess that'd be where the Royal Family would give their speeches to audiences. Perhaps the front of this building would be open to the public (the courtyard and the two courtyards with the four buildings) for public events and whatnot, while the rest is private.

Perhaps I should try for some more "draconic" architecture...for instance, it occurred to me while I was making this that dragons wouldn't actually need exterior stairs for access...they'd just fly up to the spot. So there could potentially be landing zones and platforms all over the place...a "front door" might just be a human concept; for dragons, a "top door" might be the more common mode of entry. I dunno.

Well, perhaps, but they'd still need to take into account their bipedal, wingless dragonkin in the form of argonians. They can't and shouldn't be left out.

Hmm...true, didn't think of them. There would be stairs to every part of the palace, though...just on the inside of the building; nothing on the outside.

Plus a bipedal species would be able to make use of ladders.
