Pixel Shields

Description

This was something I started for the hell of it one day while reading through a book on heraldry that I'd bought at a Whitcoulls sale. One page had a normal shield with a yellow bar at the top with a black eagle on it, apparently to show that family's support for a claimant to the throne.

It got me thinking about how crests could be worked into everyday life, and so I decided to build on my chopped up world maps (not uploaded here), where I'd divided the world into the old monarchies and empires that used to exist. My idea was that people could stick one of these symbols at the top of their crest, to show what area of the world they'd come from or had ancestry from.

Either way, it was fun to draw, and a good way to hone pixel skills. The lions on the British shield don't look too great but I think the others came out fairly well! I didn't finish this, as you can see (the Bohemian lands have only their background colour, and Bavaria's not even close to finishing).

All of the shields were drawn using the designs on Wikipedia - go to the page for the respective territory, and the shield should be there.
